Deborah Marshall was born in Cameron, Missouri, and lived in Munich for 22 years where she received her masters in performance. She then played with the Bavarian Radio Orchestra under such maestros as Rafael Kubelik, Sir George Solti, Leonard Bernstein, Ricardo Muti, Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, Giuseppe Sinapoli, Leonard Slatkin, Erich Leinsdorf, Sir Colin Davis, Lorin Maazel, Bernard Haitink and Kurt Masur. She held teaching positions at both the Hochschule and the Richard Strauss Conservatory, where she later served as professor for clarinet and chamber music and head of the woodwind department. Her playing has been known throughout Europe for its expressiveness, virtuosity and beauty of tone. She has recorded for broadcasting corporations in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Russia, as well as having recorded nine CDs.

Many of her students hold professional orchestra positions, but she is even more proud that so many others enjoy playing in amateur groups and  find music such a meaningful addition to their lives. As she has said:  “I was fortunate to play with so many insightful and deeply committed musicians. So, it’s a privilege to be able to take what I learned in Europe and to be part of making that tradition come to life here”

Since moving to Boulder, Colorado in 2010, Debbie has been an active member of the Front Range classical music world. She has played in the Colorado Symphony, the Boulder Philharmonic, and director of the Boulder Symphony’s chamber music series, as well as playing chamber and solo recitals with the Eclectic Concerts and the Dazzle Classical series in Denver, Off the Hook Festival in Ft. Collins, the Jaipur Literary Festival, among many others.

Her students have ranged from beginners to experienced adults. In the last year they have placed in honors programs or joined in community orchestras on the Front Range.
